Opening Celebration: Simone Leigh

ICA’s Opening Celebration  I attended the Opening Celebration: Simone Leigh at the ICA and it is breathtaking. Some stand out selections featured were from Leigh’s presentation at the U.S. Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale. Her exhibit will run from Apr 6 – Sep 4, 2023.

Simone, Simone, Simone…

I honestly don’t know what to say. I’m truly appreciative to have the opportunity to witness her stellar sculptural pieces.

I won’t lie, I’m fairly new to her work. Like a solid half a day new to her work. So I needed to get up on game before I showed up clueless to this event. Between artist talks, interviews, and articles about Simone, I was floored. She’s damn good. Like when you’re new to something but you can sense something special? That’s what her work gives.

I want to tip my hat off to the ICA for their continued ability to create a welcoming environment for the attendees and creating architectural moments for the art to take center stage. The overall experience is one I’ll remember for a very long time.

I’ll be back again for the Artist’s Voice: Simone Leigh with Rashida Bumbray happening 4.6.23. Until then, here’s a photo dump of some of my favorite pieces.

Hope y’all enjoy!
